Sunscreen: Should I wear it in winter?

During the winter months, when the weather is hazy and the cold is bitter, no one imagines that the sun can be harmful to their skin. However, harmful UV radiation can penetrate even clouds or glass, causing it to “stealth” attack your skin cells without you even noticing. Diligent, continuous sun protection not only reduces the risk of skin disorders, but also works against the signs of aging. In other words, it keeps your skin firm and youthful.

When the weather outside is anything but pleasant, we all instinctively dress warmly, with hats, scarves and gloves; but this does not mean that the entire surface of our skin is covered. It is important to protect your face and hands – if you are not wearing gloves – as these areas are left exposed and greatly affected by the winter sun's rays.

Sun protection in the snow

All of the above is even more true if you're out in the snow – all it takes to wipe your face is to wipe away all your UV protection. The second unfortunate fact about idyllic Christmas postcard landscapes is that this white layer of snow acts as a mirror for UV rays, reflecting them back up and basically doing double the damage. So bet on one sunscreen broad-spectrum with a high protection index, and be sure to reapply regularly throughout the day.
